About the Pain Factor

What is pain? Where does it come from? Is there anything we can do to control it, overcome it, and leverage it?

This podcast is a comprehensive exploration of chronic pain alongside physical, emotional, and mental friction thresholds. Through shared data, clinical insight, and pain science, we aim to map this complex reality.

We want to be clear: this is not a self-help podcast. It is about fostering accountability while maintaining a human approach to sensitive issues. Religion, mysticism, and toxic positivity are things we purposefully, and adamantly, distance ourselves from.

Before facing a challenge, we must understand it. That is the objective of this platform.

Join us on this essential quest for understanding, empowerment, and ultimate freedom.

About Gustavo Varela

I have dealt with chronic pain for a long time. I have also survived the effects of intense religious indoctrination, which left behind its own layer of trauma, guilt, and psychological pain, along with the usual depression and anxiety. When I looked for answers, I quickly grew tired of generic lists—the standard “5 things to avoid if you want to heal” or “3 simple things to break free from pain.”

I got tired.

I got really tired. There was so much advice, but so little explanation.

Little by little, with the support of family, friends, and dedicated professionals, I managed to find myself in a much better place today.

That progress brought me to a new question: what could I do to help others find the clear answers and deep-level support that I didn't have when I needed them most?

It has been a long journey, and it is certainly not over. But I have managed to secure some answers, get some help, and arm myself with useful tools that make the daily struggles manageable—and most importantly, allow me to actually enjoy life again.

But let me be absolutely clear: I have found some answers, not all of them. Not even close.

Different individuals face different questions. My personal answers probably won't solve your exact equation. But maybe a few of them can point you in the right direction. Maybe they can help.

There are no magical answers here, and there are no miracle pills either. But there is systemic possibility.

Not hope.

Possibilities. Opportunities. Treatments. Knowledge. Information. People.

To me, that is much better than hollow, useless hope.

Through The Pain Factor, I will gladly share everything I have learned on this journey, while bringing you raw conversations with healthcare professionals, trauma survivors, and chronic pain warriors.

Will you join me?

Take care, and stay strong.
